Advanced Endodontic Technology
At Green Mountain Endodontics, board-certified endodontist Dr. Eric Feuer uses advanced technology every day to improve the precision, comfort, and outcomes of your care.
1. 3D Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT)
Traditional dental X-rays provide a flat, two-dimensional view of your teeth. While 2D X-rays are useful, they can hide critical details behind other teeth or jawbone structures. To overcome this, we use a Carestream 3D CBCT Scanner. This scanner captures high-resolution 3D images of your teeth, roots, jawbone, and surrounding nerves in just a few seconds.
Why CBCT is Essential for Your Care:
- Hidden Canal Detection: Roots often have complex shapes and extra, hidden canals. CBCT allows us to see these canals in 3D, ensuring they are fully cleaned and disinfected.
- Infection Evaluation: We can view the exact size and shape of an infection in the bone surrounding the tooth root, allowing for better treatment planning.
- Fracture Identification: CBCT is invaluable for detecting subtle root cracks or vertical fractures that do not show up on standard 2D X-rays.
- Reduced Radiation: The CBCT scanner exposes you to a fraction of the radiation of a medical CT scan and is highly targeted to just the dental area.
2. Surgical Operating Microscopes
Root canals are incredibly small, complex tunnels inside the root of your tooth. To perform treatment with the highest level of accuracy, Dr. Eric Feuer uses high-powered surgical operating microscopes during every procedure. These microscopes magnify the interior of the tooth up to 20 times and illuminate the treatment area with high-intensity LED light.
Benefits of Surgical Microscopes:
- Enhanced Visual Precision: Magnification allows us to see tiny anatomical details, extra canals, and structural cracks inside the tooth root.
- Conservative Treatment: With such clear visibility, we can preserve more of your natural tooth structure, keeping the tooth stronger.
- Locating Obstructions: The microscope enables us to safely locate and remove old root canal filling materials, separated instruments, or calcifications during retreatments.
3. Digital X-Rays
When standard X-rays are required, we use advanced digital radiography instead of traditional film.
- 90% Less Radiation: Digital X-rays reduce your radiation exposure by up to 90% compared to traditional dental film.
- Instant Results: The images are available on screen instantly, reducing your time in the dental chair.
- Enhanced Detail: Digital images can be magnified, color-enhanced, and contrasted on screen, allowing Dr. Feuer to explain your diagnosis more clearly.
4. Ultrasonic Instrumentation
Cleaning and disinfecting the root canal system is the most critical step of root canal therapy. We utilize specialized ultrasonic instruments that vibrate at high frequencies. These devices help:
- Thorough Disinfection: The ultrasonic energy creates micro-bubbles in the disinfecting solutions, forcing them into the tiny microscopic lateral canals that hand instruments cannot reach.
- Remove Calcifications: Ultrasonic tips are used to safely remove hard calcium deposits that block access to the root canals.
5. Rotary Endodontics
We use modern nickel-titanium (NiTi) rotary instruments to shape the root canals. Unlike the stiff stainless steel hand files used in the past, rotary files are highly flexible and conform to the natural curves of your tooth's roots.
- Fewer Complications: The flexibility of NiTi files reduces the risk of root perforation or damage.
- Faster Treatment: Rotary instruments speed up the shaping process, reducing your time in the chair.
- Quieter, Smoother Experience: The electric handpieces are quiet and smooth, eliminating the scraping sounds associated with older techniques.
